This is Aira, once the home to every type of Pokemon and human alike. Legendary beings of legend kept the humans and Pokemon in balance, but those times were not to last. Three trainers from another island brought stories of more, more ways to live, more riches than could ever be found. They also brought havoc. We began to argue, to hate, lie, kill; everyone wanted more than their neighbors. Even the original three fought amongst themselves, with different ideas of how Pokemon should be kept...sold...used... The one thing they had in common was to find the source of energy that enabled Pokemon to use their powers, and to control it. Many natives to the island joined them; most fled. Terror had taken hold of Aira.
Thus came the creation of Teams Toxic, Holo, and Marina.
Now, the island has been fortified once more. Trainers, scientists, and other 'beta testers' have scoured the area, started the formation of cities, and settled down. All scouts have reported negative; there is no one left from the old days.
...Or is there?
